Winter is coming and the plague is happening again in many areas. The epidemic in Chengdu has been frequently accepted on the hot search these two days, causing concern, so we will tell you again today about the collection criteria and precautions for pharyngeal swabs.

1 . Concept of pharyngeal swab.

Pharyngeal swab specimen: A small amount of secretion is swallowed from the human body with a medical swab and the sample collected is a pharyngeal swab sample.

2 . Why do a pharyngeal swab: to collect secretions from the pharynx or tonsils for bacterial culture or virus isolation to assist in clinical diagnosis. When considering clinically suspicious cases such as measles, influenza, and new coronavirus screening, it is agreed to collect a pharyngeal swab for nucleic acid testing.

3 . Prepare pharyngeal swabs: pharyngeal swab sampling tubes (tube swabs), performancep biohazard markers suitable for display in size sealed bags, tongue depressor, etc. Check the label outside the throat mask (date, availability of specifications, sampling fluid for color deterioration, turbidity, sediment, and other information about the sampling tube, such as name, sampling unit, and sampling number).

First of all, we should communicate with the subjects and inform them in advance that they should not smoke, drink alcohol, eat chewing gum, irritating and flavorful food within 30 minutes before sampling.

4 . When sampling pharyngeal swabs.

First, check the subject and personal information.

5, then tear open the sample swab's jacket package and remove the sample swab.

6, open the mouth to the subject to make a moaning sound, expose the throat, and if necessary, press down the tongue with the tongue depressor (the first 2/3 of the tongue depressor, and the last 1/3 ).

7, remove the sterile swab, softly and quickly wipe both sides of the pharyngeal tonsils and the posterior pharyngeal wall 3 times, and put the swab head into the preservation solution.

Hook the end of the swab firmly with the mouth of the preservation tube, throw away the end, tighten the cap of the tube and tighten the cap (strictly aseptic operation).

8、Check the patient's name again after taking the sample.

9、Put it into a sealed bag, put it into a professional transport box, and send the sample to the laboratory for examination quickly.

Notes that should be noted.

10、Put the swab into the tube vertically when putting it into the tube, do not rub the mouth of the bottle to avoid soiling. When putting into the transport, please put it vertically and do not leak the liquid.

11、The day of sampling is best sent to send / laboratory for inspection.

12、Before sending for inspection must make the appropriate specimen and checklist consistent, the appearance of the sampling tube must be clearly named basic information, without the basic information of the specimen can not be inspected. Sending specimens must be submitted (or submitted to the electronic version in advance) screening information sheet, send the film and other information, submit the information should not be contaminated, do not put together with the specimen.

13、Sampling must be prevented within 2h after the patient's meal in order to prevent profiling and to prevent soft, stable, agile collection movements that cause discomfort to the patient.

14、The pharyngeal swab must not touch other parts during the collection process. Ensure the correctness of the specimen left.

15、Do not use antibacterial drugs when deciding to make a pharyngeal swab.

16、The depth of pharyngeal swab collection and the length of mucosal contact time. When collecting a pharyngeal swab, there is a risk that it will become a false negative and the patient's treatment will be delayed if the sampling time is insufficient or if poor quality swabs are used due to the subject's greater reaction to vomiting.
