I. Operation preparation

 

 

1. Protective preparation.

 

 

The collection personnel should wear a hat, double-layer latex gloves, isolation gown, one-piece protective clothing, N95 mask, goggles/protective mask, shoe covers, and waterproof boots in order according to the standard.

 

 

2. Preparation with materials.

1 test tube containing 3 ml of virus preservation solution, 2 plastic rod swabs with polypropylene fiber heads, tongue depressor, flashlight, self-sealing bag, black carbon pen, Aegis hand sanitizer, 75% alcohol spray solution, biosafety transport case.

 

 

II. Assessment

 

 

Patient's condition, age, degree of cooperation, check whether there are foreign bodies in the patient's mouth, and understand the patient's oral mucosa and pharynx.

 

 

III. Specimen collection

 

 

 

1. Prepare all materials for use and ensure the expiration date.

 

 

2. Check that the patient is correct, explain to the patient or family, and obtain cooperation.

 

 

3. Indicate the patient's information on the test tube: indicate the patient's name, sample type, collection time and other basic information.

 

4. Check the patient's mouth for foreign bodies.

 

 

5. Press down the tongue root with the tongue depressor and take out 2 plastic rod swabs with polypropylene fiber heads, and ask the patient to open his mouth to make the "ah" sound and wipe the tonsils, posterior pharyngeal wall and palatal arch bilaterally.

 

 

6. Dip the 2 swab heads into a test tube containing 3 ml of virus preservation solution, break the hand-held portion and discard it, tighten the cap, place it vertically in a self-sealing bag and seal it tightly.

 

 

7. Spray both sides of the self-sealing bag with 75% alcohol.

8. Place the pharyngeal swab specimen into the yellow bucket inside the biosafety transport box, tighten the lid, and disinfect with 75% alcohol spray.

 

 

9. Cover the biosafety transport box, lock it, and disinfect it again with 75% alcohol spray.

 

 

10. After locking, the key is sprayed with 75% alcohol and put into the self-sealing bag, and the self-sealing bag is sprayed with 75% alcohol. Notify the property personnel to do a good job of personal protection (work cap, surgical mask, isolation gown, gloves) to send the biosafety transport box together with the key to the laboratory department, and notify the laboratory personnel to send the specimens to the CDC.
