Will the convenient colloidal gold method replace the new crown nucleic acid rapid test?

With the development of the New Coronavirus epidemic and the realization of the New Coronavirus pandemic, methods for New Coronavirus detection have slowly evolved from the simple New Coronavirus rapid nucleic acid assay to more accurate and rapid detection methods.

What kind of method is the rapid test paper method that is currently receiving a lot of attention? Will it be able to replace the traditional nucleic acid rapid test in the future? Let's talk about it today.

The rapid test paper is tested with colloidal gold test paper, which is now often referred to as the colloidal gold method.

This test paper is specially marked with holes for dropping in a sample of the subject's serum. There are 2 lines on the colloidal gold test paper, one is called the detection line, and the other is called the quality control line, if both lines are colored, it means positive; only the quality control line is colored, it means negative; other than these two cases are invalid results.

This test method is very convenient, the results are also very fast, generally in about 10 to 15 minutes, you can get the test results. However, the main shortcoming is that the detection throughput is low and there is a certain false positive rate (mainly affected by the quality of the antibody); moreover, the antibody to the new coronavirus detected by the colloidal gold method is an IgM antibody, and IgM is produced later than the time of virus replication, so the time window of detection is narrower than that of the nucleic acid test.

In other words, if a suspected patient is tested, the virus cannot be accurately detected by using colloidal gold test strips at the beginning of the patient's infection, and it needs to be reported only after the corresponding antibodies are produced by the patient's body immune system, which to a certain extent will produce missed detection as well as increase the risk of virus transmission.

Therefore, the colloidal gold method is still not a substitute for the new crown nucleic acid rapid test in epidemic prevention and control work. Likewise, due to its small detection throughput, it cannot be used in large numbers at important junctures of outbreak prevention and control.

It is clear to us that the New Crown Nucleic Acid Rapid Test is a test for the nucleic acid of the virus, which provides accurate detection of the nucleic acid sequence of the virus at the early stage of the patient's infection, and is more advanced compared to colloidal gold test strips at the gate. Compared to most current rapid testing methods, the New Corona Nucleic Acid Rapid Test remains the "gold standard" for patient diagnosis.

Although the New Crown Nucleic Acid Rapid Test has not yet been able to report results within minutes like other methods, the New Crown Nucleic Acid Rapid Test has been able to complete nucleic acid purification and amplification in a very short period of time through technological advancement and automation of the entire process of the New Crown Nucleic Acid Rapid Test, contributing to the accurate prevention and control of the epidemic.

The current other rapid test methods are able to be applied as a screening tool for potential risks in large-scale screening, as a complementary means to the new crown nucleic acid rapid test.
